Additional information
Valencia, being the third-largest city in Spain, is not a big, exhausting megapolis – it’s cozy and comfortable. It has everything: the relaxed atmosphere of a coastal city with a 5 km promenade and wide sandy beaches, the noise of the city center, the remarkable architecture of the historic downtown, cultural and educational events, concerts and exhibitions, universities, and activities for children.
1. City of the Arts and Sciences: A mesmerizing collection of futuristic buildings, surrounded by reflective pools, houses cultural hubs and attractions like L’Hemisfèric, an IMAX cinema and planetarium, and the awe-inspiring L’Umbracle. Oceanogràfic, located in the City of the Arts and Sciences, is the biggest aquarium in Europe. This place faithfully reproduces the most important marine ecosystems.
2. La Lonja de la Seda: UNESCO recognized the 15th-century building, an extraordinary example of Valencian Gothic architecture. During the Valencian Golden Age, it was a thriving hub for Mediterranean traders; nowadays, it’s open for excursions and tourist visits. Its interiors showcase giant Gothic columns and vaulted ceilings. It also has a beautiful small orange garden, which spreads a magical aroma at times when oranges blossom.
3. Valencia Cathedral: A central cathedral from the 13th century, it has witnessed various architectural modifications. It’s home for the Holy Grail, used by Jesus during the Last Supper. Interestingly, the Vatican officially recognized the genuineness of the Grail. Apart from visiting the Cathedral, there’s also a museum inside the church, as archeological excavations are still on, with artifacts from the early Roman period
4. Historic center: Valencia’s historic heart can be easily compared with Paris or Barcelona. Narrow streets, tree-shaded avenues, small squares, big pedestrian “Plazas, ” quaint cafes, local horchaterias, and artisanal shops.
5. Malvarrosa Beach: Malvarrosa’s wide sandy beach offers outdoor sports just 200 meters from the tennis club. The long promenade alongside the beach is lined with inviting restaurants.
6. Bioparc: close to Cabecera Park (part of Turia Park), it houses nearly a thousand animals, from lions to lemurs. Designed with near-invisible barriers, it recreates the animals’ natural life, who are seen as very happy and cared for. Children simply love the place!
